Hotel Information

Marriott is in a prime location about a mile from the San Francisco Google office and only a short 1 ½ block walk from the vibrant Union Square. The hotel is within walking distance of many of the famous sites (Chinatown gate, Nob Hill, Embarcadero) and easily accessible by BART, bus, cable cars, Uber/Lyft and taxis.

Important Things to Know

  1. Google will pay for and directly arrange 4 nights in a hotel room for you and your parent/legal guardian.
    1. Option 1: have Google pay for your hotel Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday night or:
    2. Option 2: have Google pay for your hotel Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday night.
  2. Additional guests in the room (over 2 people) will cost $25 USD, per person, per night. You are responsible for these charges. There is a maximum of 4 people per room.
  3. If you are interested in booking additional nights at your own cost before or after the GCI trip at the San Francisco Marriott Union Square please let us know and we may be able to get you the discounted nightly rate. Please note the rate at the Marriott hotel for Trip A is $320/night plus taxes (approximately $375/night) and Trip B is $279/night plus taxes (approximately $325) and you are responsible for the cost outside the 4 nights Google will cover. You may also choose to stay at another hotel as you could find a cheaper one if you plan to stay in San Francisco for longer.

Charges to Hotel Room

Please note that you will not be able to charge food or items from the gift shop to your room - you will need to pay for those items as you purchase them. Google will not pay for any of your incidentals (movies you rent, room service, phone calls, etc.).

Check-in/Check-out at hotel

  • Check-in time: 3pm
  • Check-out time: 12pm

When you check in at the hotel you will need to show a passport/photo ID and the parent/chaperone/mentor will need to give the hotel a credit card (for a hold of $200 on that will be released when you check-out, this if for incidentals and is common in the US). If you do not have a credit card we encourage you to use bring $200 in cash and do not use a Debit Card as it is very difficult and usually a long process to get funds added back onto a debit card.

Google is paying for up to four nights at the hotel. If you are staying additional nights your parent will have their credit card charged when you check-out the last morning for the additional nights.

Internet at Hotel

There will be free WiFi in your room at the San Francisco Marriott Union Square. Please follow the instructions given to you by the front desk clerk when you check in to the hotel regarding any necessary passwords, etc.

Places to eat/shop near the Marriott hotel

The Marriott has a restaurant with breakfast in the hotel which is open from 6:30 to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday and 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

You can find quite a few places to grab a quick bite or coffee, sandwich, etc. You will want to grab some food/snacks before we head out Tuesday morning to Mountain View and on Wednesday for our San Francisco Fun Day.

  • Sutter Street Cafe - Small sandwich shop with coffee & sweets
  • Honey & Honey - Crepes, sandwiches, soups, bagels, salads, pasta, burgers, drinks & more.
  • Sears Fine Food and Cafe Mason - Two different American cafes famous for their, omelets, pancakes, french toast, quesadillas, and more
  • Starbucks - across the street from Marriott (at the Kimpton Sir Francis Drake hotel)
  • Cafe La Taza - Egg Scrambles, burritos, sandwiches and entree
  • Lori's Diner - Old style cafe serving classic breakfast, pancakes, waffles and more (across street from Marriott)
  • BeanStalk Cafe - Coffee & global bites
  • Sutter Pub and Burger Bar - Two different All American place famous for their Burgers
  • Foundation Cafe - Quick stop for sustainable American eats
  • Cafe Claude - Classic French Bistro
  • Boba Guys Union Square - Counter-serve spot for Asian milk teas
  • Cozy Cable Car Cafe - Informal stop for crepes & sandwiches
  • Scala's Bistro - An inspired mix of rustic and fresh Italian and Californian on the table
  • The Cheesecake Factory - Not the best cheesecake but definitely a good one
