James B. Donovan was a lawyer & Navy Officer and as a lawyer, he worked as a negotiator. Later on in life, he became the vice president of the New York Board of Education (BOE), and from 1963 until 1965.
He was president of Pratt from January 1968 until January of 1970. He created the Pratt Institute Senate which still exists today. He continued his law firm whilst being president of Pratt until his death on January 19, 1970 due to a heart attack.
Acting president 1970-1972
Saltzman was acting president at Pratt following Donovan's death. Saltzman was faced with student demonstrations from the architecture students, the faculty and the Black Student Union.
