Mervyn Mason, Dogwood Ecology's principal ecologist, cut his teeth on African herpetology and ecology. Growing up in South Africa, he was a keen herper from a young age, who, along the way, had the privilege of being mentored by the late Bill Branch, Wulf Haacke, and Phil Bishop, and many others. He later became a student of Bill’s and Graham Alexander. Since then, he has worked around the world organising and supervising biodiversity surveys and impact assessments, including within many African countries where he was able to collaborate with some truly knowledgeable individuals. Dogwood Ecology is proud to support Africa’s future herpetologists to attend the HAA conference to enable them to mingle and converse with Africa’s leading herpetologists and hopefully afford them the same opportunities that Mervyn had
