Annual Show & Sale Nov 6, 7 & 8, 2026
Olivia is a visual artist living and working out of Naicam, in the Northeast Region of Saskatchewan, Canada. She was raised on the Sunshine Coast, BC, before moving to the interior for her final years of school. After hopping between the coast, Alberta and the BC interior for a time, she moved to Saskatchewan in 2001. Her initial development and training in the arts began at an early age, with local artists Katherine Warn, Diana Aulis, Larry Westlake and Mr. Steves being regular instructors and influences in her childhood and adolescence. Artists Catherine Jackson and Terry Weatherill within her family were, and continue to be, a great influence and encouragement in her development. While in the BC interior, her arts teacher Mr. Law at the Peter Skene Secondary School really started to challenge and shape her work, and she attributes much of who she is as an artist to his influence. Having originally planned to pursue a career as an artist, Olivia put that on hold for a time after moving to Kindersley, SK, working only minimally while concentrating on community work and raising a family. In 2017, she decided to step back into the art world, and by the end of 2018 had transitioned to full time practice.
Olivia has been a curious observer her entire life, often creating out of opportunity; using any available medium on any available surface. Whatever might be at hand is considered a usable tool and an opportunity to create, and she considers her work Exploratory. She loves being challenged to explore new concepts and approaches which leads her to work in a variety of materials and techniques. Watercolour, acrylic, ink and pastel are consistent favourites, coupled with an affinity for line and colour. These, along with an aspect of the unusual or whimsical, tends to have her work fall somewhere between the real and surreal. The places she has lived, her travels and the people she has met, often are inspiration or represented in her work. She considers her work an attempt to capture the world around her as she sees it, striving to see the beauty and wonder in all things, even in the difficult and mundane. Her art is where the roaming of her observations and curiosity find their destinations, and she considers her process both her retreat and rebellion. Her hope is to create work that captures the attention of the viewer, enticing them to take a moment to engage both in thought and feeling that would move them to some conclusion as well. Whether they understand it or not, the viewer hopefully leaves with a sense of being spoken to or in some way inspired.
