As a competitive robotics team, Highland Park Robotics strives to engineer new robots each year with unique and compelling designs. Below is a list of the previous robots we created, the competition season, as well as an Engineering portfolio with an in-depth preview of the robot and what we did that season.
2025-2026 Competition Season
FTC Decode
Tricerashots
The overall theme of Decode centered around excavation and sorting, where robots collect and score purple and green "artifacts" into alliance goals while matching a randomly selected pattern known as a "motif".
Our team was awarded the Reach Award. This award is given to those who promote the culture of FIRST and introduce people to the community through outreach.
Our robot's goal was to shoot 3 artifcats in order and matching the theme of aged organisms.
2024-2025 Competition Season
FTC Into The Deep
The Angular Fish
The overall theme of Into the Deep centered around underwater exploration, where we picked up underwater "samples." To overcome the challenges of the samples' unique shape, we had an innovative intake system with an overhead roller to get the samples.
During this season, our team earned 2nd Place for the Think Award.
Our robot's intake resembled the light fixated on an angler fish, hence the name of our robot.
2023-2024 Competition Season
FTC CenterStage
Pythagoras
Pythagoras was our team's robot for the FTC CenterStage season. It works by placing pixels onto an angled backdrop, prompting our team to develop a conveyor belt intake system for our League tournament and States competition.
This was our first time qualifying for the States competition.
The robot resembled the shape of a 90-degree angle, and so the name is a reference to the Pythagorean theorem that focuses on right triangles.
2022-2023 Competition Season
FTC PowerPlay
Jellibot
For the Powerplay season, our team focused on innovative solutions to pick up cones and place them on junctions in the game pit. We designed the "jellyfish," an intake mechanism that expands/widens within the cone with the use of tension and strings to pull it.
With the Jellibot, our team earned 2nd Place for the Design Award for the first time ever.
2021-2022 Competition Season
FTC Freight Frenzy
For Freight Frenzy, our team utilized a "turret" arm to provide two points of rotation, which was also faster when picking up game pieces in Freight Frenzy.
During this season, the robot was not provided with a name.
2020-2021 Competition Season
FTC Ultimate Goal
Big Brother
Because the robot has light sensors, the team referenced George Orwell's book 1984 and the phrase, "Big Brother is watching you."
During our team's first few FTC seasons, we did not utilize an online version of the Engineering Notebook.
2019 was the first season including an online notebook, but with no concise photos.
