Invention/Contribution:
Muslim engineers, especially Al-Jazari (1136–1206 CE), created extraordinary mechanical “trick devices”.
These included automata (moving figures), water-driven peacocks, mechanical servants, self-operating fountains, and drink-serving machines.
His devices combined engineering, art, and entertainment — centuries before robotics.
They were described in his book “The Book of Knowledge of Ingenious Mechanical Devices” (1206).
Why it matters:
Represented the roots of automation and robotics.
Inspired later European engineers during the Renaissance.
Showed how science could also bring wonder, joy, and creativity into daily life.
