On Monday 24 February at lunchtime a group of tamariki met in Ruma Pākohe (Rm 8) for an art walk. We walked around the school, found the artworks, and talked discussed the stories they tell. We decided the artworks around our school share knowledge about things such as:
our school symbols - eg. the VPS logo is the mangopare (hammerhead shark) and it represents strength
Our different cultures, art forms and languages
The different parts of our kura
Our different classes/whānau groups
Our mana whenua - local iwi
Tauiwi - people who have migrated here
Local stories (pū rākau) eg. Huriawa is a kaitiaiki/taniwha who arrived with Rākeihautu and the Uruao waka, she takes care of our waterways
Our wider Victory community
