Selection process

For selection, collaborative teams of up to four students will be required to create a short 2.5 minute video submission about the learning that has contributed to their design. Entries for the Showcase will be assessed by a team of curators against the judging criteria and school teams will be awarded an opportunity to showcase their initiatives.

At least one team from every school will be selected. Further additional team wildcard entries may be selected to participate based on excellence of idea and demonstration of the learning journey. 

We will be looking for the innovative ideas and thinking behind the projects in our evaluation and hoping to see these realised in the final submissions.

Team Video submissions

Each team of maximum 4 students will be required to provide a 2.5 minute video submission which will be used by curators to select finalists to attend MACS STEM MAD 2024.

The video should include a clear pitch, a description of your design process and a virtual walk-through of your prototype. 

The curators will provide advice on improvement based on the judging criteria to support teams in preparing their final presentation. 

School teams will be required to display their school identity (e.g. school banner, logo, poster) in their video. Ensure you address all the project criteria.

Each video should include the entire team  of up to 4 students with each student portraying a strong positive presence. 

PLEASE NOTE: School teams selected to go forward into STEM MAD National will need to provide an additional 2.5 minute final video for judging. Feedback from the curators and judges  at MACS STEM MAD should also be taken into account when compiling this submission.

Please use the forms (with uploader links) below to submit your teams' video entries to the Showcase, remembering to put SCHOOL NAME and SUBURB in the title of your film upload.  

Applications open from Friday 21st June 2024

A separate application is required for each team.

The closing date for submissions is Friday 9th August 2024

Winners and finalists from MACS STEM MAD may be invited to represent MACS and participate in the National STEM MAD in Brisbane.
