Sora Reading App

To Access Ebooks & Audiobooks using SORA on your smartphone:

1. Install the Sora app on your phone from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

2. In Sora, find Vestavia Hills City School District, then sign in using your school login. 

3. You can set your reading preferences on the left.  I suggest both young adult and adult options under audience as well as everything under available books. To browse for a book, simply scroll. There are monthly featured titles, and books are also organized by subjects/genres.  Simply click the book cover to access the book description and read a sample before deciding to borrow. Sampling before borrowing helps us save on the costs of ebooks. Once you decide to borrow, you start reading right away and the title will be available on your shelf for 2 weeks.

4. Inside an open book, you can access features such as bookmarks, adjust reading settings and find other tips and secrets by clicking the ≡ at the top right.

5. Close the book and click loans to go to your shelf to see all your books. From there, you can tap open book/audiobook to read or listen to the borrowed book. Tap options to return or renew the book, get to your notes and highlights, and more. Please be courteous and return the book as soon as you are finished.  All titles are defaulted to be returned after 14 days.

To Access Ebooks & Audiobooks using SORA on your Chromebook:

1. You can also access Sora directly from Classlink using the link in the VHCS folder on your toolbar.

2. Sign in using your school login and locate the Overdrive/SORA app.

3. Use the above information to set up and navigate Sora's offerings.  HAPPY READING!

How To Send an e-book to a Kindle or tablet:

1.  If you prefer to read on a tablet, download the Kindle app. Once you borrow a book through Sora, go to the Shelf, then Loans and then Options.  You will see a send to a device option, and you will select Kindle US only.

2. You will be redirected to Amazon and will have to sign in to your account.  It will give you a get library book option and make sure you send it to the correct device.  Easy-peasy!   

3. The title will also show up in your Kindle app on your phone or tablet.
