For best results, use the scan option within iPhone notes by clicking the camera (or attachment) icon. Don't forget to send it to your Google Drive.
Stay Organized
Create a folder in Google Drive specifically for this assignment. Within the folder, create a list of citations and permalinks/stable URLs of all your potential sources on the sheet provided by your teacher. (see above) Upload a PDF of all articles/ebook selections to your Google folder.
If the Google Drive option is not available in the database you are using, use the print option to save as a pdf. You will then have to upload the file to your Drive as a file upload.
Find and save more sources than you think you will need.
When you save database links, be sure to use the permalink option. Do not copy the address bar window in error. It will not route you back!
Search Smarter
Use the suggestions made to you in the database dropdown in the search window for the best results. Also, check out the suggested materials that the databases will give you. It might lead to a new direction.
If you have a specific phrase you want to search, put quotation marks around it. Ex. "American Dream"
Use the Find shortcut (Control F on a chromebook), to skim long passages for keywords.
Use the highlight/annotation tools for note-taking while reading; highlighting at least one quote or paragraph so you remember why you saved the article to your Google Drive.
Printing
If you prefer to print your sources for annotation, there's a nominal cost of $.20 per page. We can show you how to condense your printing of long articles to save you some coins. Most prefer to color code sources using highlighters, but color printing is also available at $.50 a page.
Using Google Docs to Create A Citation
Use the Tools menu, select "citation," and choose the style guide MLA 8. Fill in the information you have and click add "citation source." Your citation list will save and appear in your doc sidebar. Although this is the previous edition, there are very few changes from version 8 to 9.
