In recent years, our college has won several accolades at Avishkar, the annual research convention of University of Mumbai.
This special program, referred to as ACP, is conducted by the college to cater to the needs of 'advanced' learners. It is an interdisciplinary program designed to provide an educational experience to nurture the growth of the student academically, socially, emotionally and intellectually and to sensitize him/her towards the vast research potential in his/her field of interest.
Recognizing that research enriches both teaching and learning, the college staff and students have consistently pursued research projects, which have resulted in a sizable number of publications and research degrees. The College has 11 recognized guides supervising Ph.D. research. The Research Circle of the College works to promote the researching acumen of the faculty and students by encouraging them to explore, experiment and express. Our efforts have been well recognized – we have received the DST-FIST Grant and the DBT Star College grant which have served to shape the curriculum for promotion of science. Upgradation of the labs has helped to familiarize students with several high-end equipment.
Many departments have a student association that conducts cocurricular activities throughout the year where students learn more about their subject and also develop organizational and leadership skills. This is achieved through various activities such as poster making, seminars, presentations, quiz, essay writing, skits, model making, debate, movie screening, guest lectures, exhibitions etc.
The college has established External Linkage with several academic Institutions, industries & NGOs to facilitate activities such as Research, Practical Training and Placement and to create awareness about social issues among the students. Some of these include B.A.R.C., Forum of Free Enterprise, Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), Nusantara Project, Marathi Vidnyan Parishad, Vijnana Bharati, HiMedia Laboratories, Seed Infotech, CSI, Profound Edutech, Squad Infotech, Indian Women Scientist Association(IWSA), Indian Chemical Society (ICS), VES College of Pharmacy, Lupin Laboratories and Materials research groups of Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science, IIT Bombay for using research facilities including Instruments for analysis, NIIT, CMC, APTECH, ERUDITE and Endeavor, Kotak Education Foundation etc.
The college has started an interactive e-learning course called Microbytes which is open to students of all colleges. The content, which is based on Microbiology topics, is prepared by Microbiology and Biotechnology students with existing online/offline learning resources and curated by the staff. It aims to facilitate peer-to-peer learning through the use of Google classroom. The activities involve interactive learning and virtual lab experience followed by assessment on the basis of the quizzes and peer graded assignments. This activity was initiated during the period of the Covid-19 lockdown as a means of continuing with the teaching - learning process even while the college had shut down.
Various departments conduct inter-collegiate events that serve as a platform for students to display their talents and forge valuable connections. The events include Science Mela (Science departments, Psychology Dept.), Confluence (BMS), Impressions (BMM), Niraya (BFM), Sagacity (IT), Vihaan (Comp.Sc), Euphonity (B&I), Mathemight (Maths), ChemTalentia (Chemistry), Arvestus (BAF). These vibrant events facilitate interaction of our students with those of other colleges, enable them to learn more about their subject and also help them to develop valuable organizing and leadership skills
Several departments of the college arrange educational tours and industrial visits for their students. This widens the horizon of our students, giving them an opportunity to see the application of theoretical tenets and gauge how reality may actually be different from bookish knowledge.Visits to premier research institutes are also arranged which give the students an opportunity to interact with scientists.
