IWSA is an All India social welfare, voluntary, non-profit, secular, non-political charitable organization. It has eleven branches across India, with its head quarters located in Vashi, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra. IWSA's Membership is open to all women with a background in Science & Technology and Associate Membership is open for those interested in science and with a scientific temper. Round the year it does many science and community programs, some in association with educational Institutes and research organizations. Science Programs include Science Nurture Programs, Popular Science Lecture Series, Refresher Courses, Seminars and Workshops. Community initiatives include a Working Women's Hostel, Day Care Center, Nursery School, Community Health Care Center and many such initiatives.

Our College and the Department of Microbiology has a long term association with IWSA in conduct of Popular Science Lecture Series. In the past we have organized many such lectures. Few of our students have been recipients of the academic Scholarship of IWSA. Many Staff members of the department have undergone faculty development programs organized by IWSA in collaboration with Colleges and Research Organizations.

Department of Microbiology's first ever Lab to Land Project a prototype of a grey water recycling of kitchen waste water has been installed at the Indian Women Scientists' Association Campus Vashi. This project was undertaken by Mr. Alok Singh (M.Sc. By Research) student under the guidance of Dr. Santhini S. Nair as part of research degree titled ‘Development of a Novel Economic Pilot System for Bioremediation and Recycling of Canteen Greywater for Non Consumption Purposes’. This project has been initiated by Padmashri Dr. Sharad Kale, and work has been done in collaboration with Dr. S. T. Mehetre, NABTD, BARC . The work done at IWSA was supervised by Ms. Vijayalakshmi Tilak, Member, Executive Committee, IWSA. Know more about the project here
