At the beginning of the school year, the students learn about the NGSS Science and Engineering Practices. Then, we will have a mini-unit about the Metric System and how to make conversions between units. After, we will move on to our Energy, Forces, and Motion unit which relates Newtonian physics to objects that roll, fall, and collide. Finally, we will move on to our last unit, Structure and Function. In this unit, the students will learn about cells and their functions within organisms.

If your child struggles with science, I recommend purchasing Everything You Need to Ace Science in One Big Fat Notebook: The Complete Middle School Study Guide. This book will not only help your child better understand the topics we cover in 6th grade science, but also all throughout 7th and 8th grade as well.

We only have a class set of each textbook, so your child will not bring a textbook home with them. Any readings we have in class will be available on carolinescienceonline.com. The students will create accounts at the beginning of the school year.
