Mrs. Shaw

I am thrilled to begin my eighth year teaching at H.B.W. School! Even though I was raised a few miles up Bloomfield Avenue in Roseland, I have always viewed Verona to be a special place. Verona really is the quintessential "small-town USA." There is so much to love about Verona. Some of my favorite things include its walkable downtown, historic homes and buildings, and beautiful parks.

Prior to coming to H.B.W., I taught sixth-grade social studies for four years at Robert R. Lazar Middle School in Montville, NJ. I hold certifications in Elementary Education (K-6), Middle School Social Studies (5-8), Middle School English Language Arts (5-8), and Teacher of Students with Disabilities.

This year, I'll be teaching Sixth Grade English Language Arts and Core Strategies/Support Class. I'm also co-teaching with other talented teachers in math, science, and social studies. I'm looking forward to focusing my energy on helping all students, but especially those students with different learning styles. It's okay if you don't learn material in the traditional manner. I'll explore a range of different avenues for understanding new information with you.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family. I have three sons, fourteen-year-old Kevin, twelve-year-old Jack, and eight-year-old Thomas. I also love to read, listen to podcasts, cook, garden, and get my hands dirty with a slew of DIY projects.

I'm looking forward to a wonderful year as one of your teachers!
