REQUISITOS
First Step: Connect with the "Seal Advisor"
The "Seal Advisor" is a teacher who understands the Seal requirements and provides guidance to students pursuing the Seal.
Interested students should complete a Google Form in order to be connected with the Seal Advisor.
The Seal Advisor will meet with the student to discuss the requirements listed below, address any questions, and ensure the student understands the expectations.
If the student determines they would like to proceed, the Seal Advisor will give the student access to the Seal of Biliteracy Google Canvas course.
Primer Paso: Conecta con un "Asesor del Sello de Bilingüismo"
Un Asesor "Seal Advisor" es un maestro(a) que entiende los requisitos del Sello de Bilinüismo y brinda una guía a los estudiantes que quieren obtenerlo.
Los estudiantes interesados deben completar un formulario Google para que se les pueda conectar con el Asesor del Sello de Bilingüismo.
El Asesor del Sello de Bilingüismo se reunirá con los estudiantes para hablar de los requisitos listados a continuación, abordar cualquier pregunta y asegurarse de que el estudiante entiende las expectativas.
Si el estudiante determina que le gustaría proceder, el Asesor del Sello de Bilingüismo le dará al estudiante acceso al Curso de Sello de Bilingüismo de Canvas.
Students who qualify for a Seal of Biliteracy must demonstrate:
Proficiency in a language other than English with a qualifying score (Intermediate High or above) on one of the following approved assessments:
STAMP 4S (costs covered by the Verona Area School District)
6 or higher on all skills (Speaking, Writing, Reading, Listening)
AP Language and Culture Exam (paid for by the student)
Must score at least a 4
ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) and ACTFL Writing Proficiency Test for the Seal of Biliteracy (costs covered by the Verona Area School District for languages that are not available for assessment through the STAMP 4S)
American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (costs covered by the Verona Area School District)
Proficiency in English is measured with a qualifying score on one of the following:
ACT English Language Arts assessment (for native English speakers or students who exited English learner services more than four years ago)
ACCESS for ELLs (for current English learners or students who exited English learner services fewer than four years ago)
Sociocultural / Bicultural Component
Hosting an exchange student from the target culture + essay in TL about the experience. Check out these local opportunities!
2-week Costa Rican High School Exchange Program - Interest Form
International Friendship 3-4 week hosting experience with a student from Spain
Travel w/ evidence of cultural immersion and use of language + essay in the target language about the experience
20 hours of service w/ evidence of cultural immersion and use of language
Reflection essay on your experience of being immersed in the partner language. Choose ONE of the 3 topics:
The Relationship Between Your Languages, Culture, and Identity
How English and the Partner Language Complement Your Life
Recognition of a Person who Made a Difference in Your Life, Language, and Learning
ASL Students may work with WESP-DHH and work in an immersive camp or summer volunteering option of 20 hours minimum.
Other proposals will be reviewed on a student-to-student basis
Biliteracy Competence
1 media essay/presentation in the partner language
WL/Heritage/TWI projects/essays
1 media essay/presentation in English
History/Social Studies project/essays
English books/essays
Los estudiantes que califican para el sello de Bilingüismo deben demostrar:
Dominio en un lenguaje distinto al inglés con un puntaje de calificación en una de las siguientes evaluaciones aprobadas:
STAMP 4S (costo cubierto por el Distrito Escolar del Área de Verona)
Examen del Curso Avanzado (AP) de Lenguaje y Cultura (pagado por el estudiante)
Debe obtener un puntaje mínimo de 4
Entrevista de dominio oral (OPI) de ACTFL y Prueba de dominio de escritura de ACTFL para el Sello de Lectoescritura Bilingüe (costos cubiertos por el Distrito Escolar del Área de Verona para idiomas que no están disponibles para evaluación a través de STAMP 4S)
Entrevista de dominio del lenguaje de señas estadounidense (costos cubiertos por el distrito escolar del área de Verona)
Dominio en Inglés se mide con un puntaje de calificación en uno de los siguientes:
Evaluación ACT de artes del lenguaje en inglés (para hablantes nativos de inglés o estudiantes que abandonaron los servicios para estudiantes de inglés hace más de cuatro años)
ACCESS para ELL (para estudiantes de inglés actuales o estudiantes que abandonaron los servicios para estudiantes de inglés hace menos de cuatro años)
Experiencia de inmersión/servicio
Acoger a un estudiante de intercambio de la cultura objetivo + ensayo en TL sobre la experiencia
Viaje con pruebas de inmersión cultural y uso del idioma y ensayo en el idioma de destino sobre la experiencia
20 horas de servicio con evidencia de inmersión cultural y uso del idioma
Ensayo de reflexión sobre tu experiencia de estar inmerso en el idioma de tu pareja. «¿Cómo te ves en ambos mundos? »
Los estudiantes de ASL pueden trabajar con el WESP-DHH y trabajar en un campamento inmersivo o en una opción de voluntariado de verano de un mínimo de 20 horas.

All Seal requirements must be completed on or before April 21 of the student's senior year.
