Kanoko Nishi-Smith

Early Childhood Special Education Teacher/Infant Specialist

Hello, my name is Kanoko, also known as Teacher K (pictured here with a special family dog, Nico)! I am an Early Childhood Special Education teacher, credentialed to work with children with all ability levels from birth to 5 years of age. Working with exceptional children is my passion. I experience this work to be not of teaching, but learning with, and from the children and their families, collectively growing as a community. I respect children's incredible resilience and instinctive wisdom, and I believe that our job as adults is to clear the path for them, and empower them as much as we can, to help them to find their individual paths toward the future, that is theirs.

When I am not working at Exceptional Tots, I also enjoy being a piano teacher (my first degree is in Classical piano performance), musician, and a mom of two children, one cat, a fish, and a rat :)

I can be reached at my email address: knishismith@vcusd.org

My name is Kaitlend Smith and I am a School Psychologist with Vallejo City Unified School District. I have a background in trauma informed care, behavioral support, early childhood development, and cultural inclusion. I am currently completing my Educational Doctorate to specialize in early childhood development and enjoy learning new things from each of the families that I work with. In my free time, I enjoy giving back to the community through volunteer work and supporting local businesses in my everyday life. I look forward to working with the families that join the Exceptional Tots Program and meeting inspiring children.
