Our Team

Our officer team consists of 11 positions who all work together with the advisors to plan FFA events throughout the year. Members can apply to be an officer during their freshman year and up. 

President

James Homan

"Stationed by the Rising Sun"

James is a senior who is involved with many sports that include Football, Track, and Basketball. James also is enjoying his 3rd and last year being FFA president!

James is in charge along with Abby in overseeing officer duties and planning officer trips and meetings. He leads our FFA Chapter meetings. 


Vice-President

Abby Leatherman

"Stationed by the Plow"

Abby is a involved in many FFA contests including  Job interviews, AG sales, and Animal Management.

Abby is in charge along with James in overseeing officer duties and planning officer trips and meetings. 


Student Advisor

Kaya Strausbaugh

"Here by the Owl"

Kaya is a junior who is involved in 4-H and IOHA. She has a passion for equine and competes in many fairs across Ohio!

Kaya is in charge of the CDE side of FFA along with keeping up with students and their track for their state degrees.


Reporter

Olivia Coutinho 

"Stationed by the Flag"

Olivia is a junior who is involved in many activities including Cross Country, Track, Horseback riding, and 4-H

Olivia has the hefty job of writing articles in the  Knightly News newspaper about FFA along with keeping track of a Reporters book! (Yearbook but for FFA chapters)


Secretary

Rebecca Betts

"Stationed by the Ear of Corn"

Rebecca is a senior who is involved with many agricultural activities including Hancock County Jr. Fair Board, Hancock County Advisory Council, 4-H Goat Council, and more!

Rebecca's role is to record the minutes of each chapter meeting, send out FFA emails to students, and keep track of the FFA calendar. She also sends out our thank you notes and other correspondence! 



Treasurer 

Curtis Ware

"Stationed by the Emblem of Washington"

Curtis Ware is a senior who does many contests including Food Science, Job Interview, Wildlife, and Ag Sales. 

Curtis keeps a record of FFA transactions, deposits, and donations that go through and fills out a treasurer's book with his logs. 


Sentinel

Brahlen Tankovich

"Stationed by the Door"

Brahlen is a sophomore who who is involved in our FFA's Parli Pro team that has gone to state 2 years in a row!

Brahlen is in charge of the FFAs inventory of tools and official dress along with labeling and organizing the classroom, shop, and loft. He also picks the themes and food for our FFA meetings!


Animal Care Manager

Sadie Thorla-Lopez 

“Here with the Animals” 

Sadie is a sophomore who is involved with many activities including Marching Band, Quiz bowl, Cross Country, and Track.

Sadie's role is to take care of all the FFA animals. She makes sign-up sheets for people to take them home over long breaks and keeps up with students' animal fair projects and much more.


Mentor Coordinator 

Kady Voland

"Stationed by Our Future"

Kady is a senior who competes in Animal Management and Soil Judging CDE and also shows rabbits and sheep at the Hancock County Fair.

Kady is in charge of recruitment for the FFA. She will make visits to the Elementary school and present fun activities about FFA to students who are interested in agriculture and animals. 



Community Coordinator

Griffin Ware

“Here with the Community.” 

Griffin is a sophomore who is also involved with the Parli-Pro team that went to State! Griffin also played Basketball and Baseball.

Griffin, along with Camden are in charge of the FFA's Community Garden, along with Apple Butter Fest in the Fall, and our trash pick-up volunteer days in the spring. 


Community Coordinator

Camden Voland

“Here with the Community.” 

Camden is a  sophomore who is involved in many FFA CDES including   Parliamentary Procedure, Soil Judging, Food Science, and Poultry judging.

Camden is partnered with Griffin on their responsibility of the FFA's Community Garden, along with Apple Butter Fest in the Fall, and our trash pick-up volunteer days in the spring. 


Advisors

Our advisors assist the chapter in many different ways. From running the classroom to helping plan FFA events they are an essential part of our organization.

Mrs. McKown (Ms. B)

Mrs. McKown is in her 8th year of teaching at Van Buren. She loves animals,  working in the shop and the great outdoors! She primarily teaches AFNR, Animal and Plant Science, Vet Science and Mechanics. In her free time, she rides her horse-Ohana. 


Mrs. Cunningham

Mrs. C is in her 2nd year of teaching at Van Buren and 6th year teaching overall. She is a 2013 grad of Van Buren High School is proud to be back in the district. She loves getting to know the students and watching them try new opportunities. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family.
