During the Livestock Evaluation Career Development Event (CDE), students work within teams to rank breeding and market classes of beef, sheep, and swine and give oral reasons to back up their decisions.

This CDE allows members to observe and evaluate in order to rank horses based on breed characteristics and conformation. Performance classes are evaluated within various equestrian styles. American Quarter Horse standards are used in performance classes. Three or four-member teams with the top three scores counting toward the team score.

The Wildlife contest tests students' skills in wildlife management principles and techniques along with the identification of species, tools, and equipment.

Participants in the Meats Evaluation CDE delve into the science of meat. During this team event, students evaluate beef carcasses for quality and yield grade; identify various meat cuts and place carcasses; and identify wholesale and/or retail cuts.
