Virginia Beach City Public Schools is committed to preparing every child to be future ready with the goal of eliminating achievement and opportunity gaps so that all students maximize their potential. Our approach centers on the Graduate Profile, i.e., the skills and attributes students will develop during their PK-12 experience. Click here for an interactive version of the strategic plan.

VBCPS Graduate Profile

Our school division’s Graduate Profile, located in the center of our Strategy Map drives much of our deeper work in the school division front of you and is anchored in our Strategic Plan, Compass to 2025, and points to a definitive objective of getting all students college and career ready. To that end, we have identified a set of attributes, referred to as our graduate profile, that we believe are critical for ensuring students are future ready. The graduate profile is intended to inspire, motivate, and guide the work of students, teachers, schools, and the division. VaLIN 3.0

VBCPS's participation in VaLIN Cohort 3.0. "will advance work to develop local assessment capacity, share assessment resources, and cross-pollinate implementation of performance assessments across divisions." (VALIN)

A team of representatives from Department of Teaching and Learning identified the following theme for VBCPS: Authentic Assessments that both capture higher-order and consequential learning.

To address this focus area, the VaLIN team developed a two-part approach to advance balanced assessment system. The greatest challenge in our district is scale. Exemplary learning and assessment experiences exist in both curriculum and classrooms; however, we often have evidence of pockets of innovation/excellence when we need to scale excellence in all classrooms in the division. To this end, we seek to develop assessment capable learners and to ensure a personalized learning environment for all students that advances the school division's commitment to ensuring that every student is achieving at their maximum potential in an engaging, inspiring, and challenging learning environment.
