Interview by: Jasmine Casas Flores and Annie Vo
With a shining opportunity opened, Mr. Guldenschuh seized the chance to take on the adventure of the principal of our school. With an extensive background in education and having already been a member of the VBCPS family, he spoke about how excited he is to get to work with both the older and younger students and to build school connections.
His main focus? Developing fundamental relationships between students, teachers, and staff members. Having experience with Virtual Virginia, he understands the importance of communication and collaboration within the classroom and the community. Recently, he has been able to visit ODS, where you can find his warm personality wandering the halls, involved in a multitude of activities, and familiarizing himself with the community.
We asked him the real question, which has been a humorous lasting debate throughout middle school and social media this year. A groundbreaking question, indeed: What color [folder] correlates to which class? Of course, to many students, there is a right and wrong answer, but here’s what he said:
In accordance with which folder color matches each class, he said:
Science: Blue
History: Orange
English: Red (Mr. Guldenschuh's reasoning was that red reminded him of how his teachers used to use red ink to mark his papers.)
Math: Green
The kicker? He’s color blind. During a pH experiment conducted with former 7th and 8th graders, Mr. Guldenschuh and the students discovered he was color blind after not being able to properly identify the proper color of the test strip.
Any more insight from this exclusive interview? When asked which after-school club he would add if he could add any, he mentioned the addition of a robotics club! As a math and science enthusiast, he shared his fondness for the subjects as we spoke about his character in class.
After his gracious answers, we reflect that with a new year comes new beginnings. Thank you again to Dr. Hedrick for her many years of hard work at the Academy and a warm welcome to Mr. Guldenschuh for the incoming year.
