Story by: Rian Sanghavi
Anchored-4-Life is a program we started at Red Mill this school year. Our teachers in charge are Ms. Nuckols and Mrs. Draughon. Here is an interview with Ms. Nuckols.
What is Anchored for Life? A club the navy gave us money to start at our school. It helps kids with life skills.
How does Anchored for Life help our school? The focus of the club is to teach life skills to all students. We have quotes that help develop our character and Inspire the students.
What is your favorite thing to do in the Anchored for Life meetings? I really don't do much in anchored for Life meeting. The cool thing about the club is that the kids do everything by themselves. So it is fun to watch them plan all the club events during the meeting.
What exactly do you do in the meetings? There are two types of meetings. The first meeting is just with the 10 team leaders and they plan the activities for the month based on a theme like friendship, work habits, peer pressure..... things like that. The other type of meeting is at Red Mill each week. Some students get kits with fun things in them that help welcome them to Red Mill and feel a part of our school. Military kids get special kits that have activities and games and a stuffed bear in them to help those kids deal with having a parent who is deployed for a long time. Activity groups help students learn different life skills like homework, making friends, things like that.
How do you feel about being the leader of Anchored for Life? I get to share this job with Mrs. Draughon. I think anytime that you are a leader of something it is a big honor. The cool thing about this club is that students are leading other students and that is fun to watch.
Is part of being Anchored for Life fun? Absolutely!
What other plans and events do you have through the year? We will lead a food drive to help our community in March and then every month we will have character development quotes, activity group meetings, and kids to help all kids here at school.
Thank your for your time and effort!
