ABOUT THE EB:
Chosen by the Company Directors, Ocean Lakes Theatre Company boasts a student leadership committee known as the OLTC EB. These individuals work hand-in-hand with the Company Directors in a focused, positive, and tireless effort to produce a high quality season of theatre at Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia. These leaders serve as mentors to new company members and veterans alike. Some of their responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assisting with all production auditions, performing some duty assignment for each and every OLTC production in the particular school year (whether as a member of the cast or production team), acting as representatives of OLTC in any / all OLHS appropriate events (such as New Student Orientation, Open House, etc.), hosting the annual OLTC-sponsored Talent Show, and reflecting the policies of VBCPS, OLHS, and OLTC at all times through constructive leadership choices. The OLTC Executive Board began in 2013 as we chartered International Thespian Honor Society Troupe #7893.
Criteria for possible advancement into the OLTC EB:
Applicant remains a current thespian in OLTC Troupe #7893 in good standing, or will be inducted before the end of the current school year (based on induction date / scheduling.)
Applicant must hold current or upcoming status in either grades 10, 11, or 12.
Applicants must remain in good academic, as well as good disciplinary standing at OLHS. This policy includes core as well as elective classes (4x4 and / or A/B.)
Applicant must complete an Application of Interest before the end of the current school year for consideration by the particular due date.
OLTC EB members that are not graduating may be required to type a one-page letter expressing their desire to continue with the board for the next school year.
Current OLTC EB members are NOT guaranteed a position in the next school year just because they served on the board during the current year. Current members, not graduating, are required to complete a new application.
Number of years with OLTC, number of productions, types of roles / jobs, ("Senior Status"), etc. are not determining factors for being chosen to serve on the OLTC EB. Students are simply not "owed" the right / entitled to serve on OLTC EB. We do not have a "Senior Privilege" when it comes to OLTC or EB selection.
Applicants should prepare for possible face-to-face (or virtual) interviews with the Company Directors, if deemed necessary.
Criteria for potential Junior Executive Board membership:
Junior Executive Board members may be selected by the adult Company Directors at any time during the school year. These Junior EB members will work with current EB members to learn the ropes. Junior EB members may not be current seniors as they will be graduating. Also, students not selected as Junior EB members are still encouraged to turn in an EB Application in May / June since the adult Company Directors will need a full Executive Board for the next school year.
Note: current EB members have no say or vote in Junior Executive Board member selection or regarding future OLTC EB members. All decisions pertaining to student leadership within Ocean Lakes Theatre Company falls to the adult Company Directors.
