September 11, 2024: 5th Grade Screening for all VBCPS* 5th grade students. We use the non-verbal Naglieri Aptitude Test (NNAT). Students who are already identified as gifted will not need to retake the test at this time. Students who choose to apply for ODS may need to do this in January or February.
October 11, 2024: ODS and Gifted Identification applications will be available.
October 11, 2024: Plaza Middle School MYP Application will be available.
October 24, 2024: 6 - 8: Information Night at Plaza Middle School for the IB Program (for rising 6th graders).
November 13, 2024: Beginning at 5:00 pm: There will be an information night at Old Donation Schoo (ODS) 4633 Honeygrove Road for gifted art (current grades 2+) and gifted dance (current grades 2-7).
January 7, 2025: International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program at Plaza Middle School application due.
January 7, 2025 by 4:00 pm: 5th Grade GIfted Testing for all applicants to ODS and GIfted Identification.
March 13th, 2025: 2nd, 3rd and 4th Grade GIfted Testing for all applicants to ODS and GIfted Identification.
TBD: Virginia Beach Middle School Gifted Visual Arts Citywide Parent Information Night for students currently in grades 5-7. Gifted Visual Arts presentation at 5:15 p.m. Virginia Beach Middle School, 600 25th Street.
TBD: Deadline for applications for all students from 2nd through 5th grade who are applying for gifted identification AND Old Donation School.
January 7, 2025: Gifted Art and Dance Applications due.
Thank you for your interest in our programs! Due to mitigation procedures already in place as a COVID-19 safeguard, our Information Nights for students interested in participating in our programs for the 2022-23 school year will be virtual and asynchronous. Videos regarding each program will be available at 4 p.m. on the indicated date for that program. Click on the links below to view each presentation (dates that presentations will initially be made available are listed in italics under each program).
Students currently in grades 2 through 7 are eligible to apply to both art and dance.
November 13: 5:00 pm Old Donation School Parent Information Night for Gifted Visual Arts and Gifted Dance Programs.
Applications are available during the first week of the school year. Applications are due the first weekday in February by 5:00 p.m. Late applications will not be accepted. The Gifted Dance Education Program is a pull-out model for identified students in grades three through eight at Old Donation School (ODS). Students and parents should be advised that the Gifted Dance Education Program is not a recreational program and that there will be some requirements involving in-depth physical, oral, and written work inside and outside of the classroom beyond their traditional home school schedule.
