Q: What is required for parents to apply to art & dance?
A: The parent uses their child’s login and password to access the online application.
Dance application - only requires a checked box and submit. No input by parent, teacher or GRT. ALL dance submitted/completed applications will be assigned an audition day.
Art application – requires checkbox and submit, also a three-page completed portfolio. No input by parent, teacher or GRT. Parent/student requests the portfolio pages from the GRT, completes the pages and gives them to the GRT by the deadline.
Q: How are auditions scheduled?
A. All dancers that applied will be scheduled to audition in-person at ODS. After all the portfolios are reviewed by the screening committee, carefully chosen students will be scheduled to audition in-person at ODS. Transportation will be arranged for students to be picked up from your school to arrive at ODS in the morning. After the auditions, students will be bussed to your school. Auditions will take approximately three hours.
Q: Can a student attach additional items to the three-page portfolio?
A: No, do not attach any other paperwork, artwork, photos, etc.
Q: Can the portfolio drawings be on different paper?
A: A: If the student has already completed the drawings and they are close to the same size, they can be attached. Oversized drawings will not be accepted.
Q: How and when are portfolios due to Old Donation School?
A: Portfolios are due to the GRT by February 1, 2022.
Q: What if a student has an IEP/504?
A: All accommodations for an IEP or 504 will be met.
A: Dance - The GRT emails ODS a copy of the accommodations for any submitted/complete applications for dance.
A: Art - I will request the accommodations if students are selected to come to the art audition.
Note: If an interpreter, device, or special arrangements are needed, please make those arrangements for your student.
Q: What if a student applies to both art and dance and are selected to participate in both programs?
A: A middle school student can attend VBMS for art and come to ODS for dance once-a-week.
Elementary students must choose ONE program.
Q: What if a student has a medical condition?
A: Parents must contact the ODS school nurse before the audition day.
Q: Can homeschooled or out-of-town students apply to the art or dance programs?
A: Yes. Anyone can apply. Auditions take place in-person on a schedule. If the student is selected for the program that student must be enrolled in a VBCPS to participate.
Q: Why do middle school students attend VBMS for the art program?
A: The ODS Gifted Visual Arts Program is housed at VBMS for grades 6-8. Middle school students attend VBMS as their homeschool and have the gifted visual art class integrated in their schedule without missing a day of instruction like they did as an elementary student.
Q: How are students selected for the art and dance programs?
A: Art - Portfolios are examined by a Screening Committee. After screening, some students are selected to come to ODS for an in-person art audition. Students are bused from your school to our school for the art audition day.
Dance – all applicants come to ODS for an in-person dance audition.
Q: If students are already in the program, do they need to re-apply every year?
A: No, once a student is in the program, they continue through middle school, if desired. Students fill out an intent form each year to continue.
Q: How is transportation provided?
A: For the auditions, students are bussed to ODS from their homeschool. Once students are selected to participate in the program, they are bussed to ODS from a bus stop near their home or childcare provider.
Q: What if a student is not able to attend the assigned day or misses the audition day?
A: If auditions are still in progress, we can re-schedule it to another day. On re-scheduled days, parents provide transportation. Let ODS know if a student needs to be re-scheduled. If a student misses the audition week, they must re-apply.
Q: What if a parent already applied for one program but now wants to apply to another one?
A: Have the parent login and click on the words Program Selection to choose another application.
