Teaching with Google Sites
Why use Google Sites in The Classroom ?
STUDENT AGENCY: Make choices for design and content, collaborate, and publish.
FREE and works with your vbschools login
EASY with simple, student-friendly interface
G-Suite SHARING and COLLABORATION features
EMBED G-Suite files and products including Google Maps and YouTube videos
Built in search engine
CONTROL ACCESS to pages and files individually: Teachers can share outside the district; students can share only within the district.
Once you learn how to create a Site, you and your students will think of lots of applications. Let's get started!
What process did we use to stand up and flesh out the portfolios?
Choose a core class to create the base of the portfolio. [2017 IMS used English.]
Create a step-by-step learning plan. [Created by ITS, then shared]
Create on a grade level in close succession [IMS used specialist team.]
Collaborate with classroom teacher for specific pages to add and work to insert.
Build in opportunities for design choices, personalization, additions, and reflection.
Collect Site links in a Google Form preferably for an entire PLC.
Tie into school and PLC goals.
Develop plan for what and how often to add work in each PLC. Send reminders.
Plan for new and absentee students.
Expect and celebrate transference of skills.
Create or locate how-to documents or videos.
Communicate with parents to clearly define vision and expectations for portfolios.
