Do a better job of public relations so that every teacher and student understands the purpose and end goal of the portfolio.
Choose early and later works that demonstrate growth. Include something from quarter and electives classes.
Discuss which core class will do the portfolio creation. Ideas? Science creates portfolios; SS creates “Passions” and adds it to the homepage; math goal setting & data sheet components
Additions and updates: monthly, end of unit, end of project, end of quarter
Be more selective in what the students add to portfolios.
Build in reflection pieces for each selection.
Build in public speaking practice prior to Portfolio Night. There are oral objectives at every level of English.
REFLECTIONS on Showcase:
Must be after spring break; weeks after the writing SOL; late April
Remind students to tell their parents which room and teacher to go to.
Have three or four people ready to look up students in Synergy.
How can we give large classes more space? Tables in LMC? Commons? Hallway?
Staff in the room needs to facilitate getting adults to view other students portfolios
Clearly articulate the reasons for face-to-face oral presentations at school. Tie in the public speaking, responding to audience comments/questions component.
