Art & Dance applications due TBD
Student’s completed portfolios are due TBD
The Gifted Dance Education Program is a pull-out model for identified students in grades three through eight and is housed at Old Donation School. Admission into the program is determined through an application process. Dance students are presented with a comprehensive curriculum that emphasizes the areas of concepts and skill development, dance history and appreciation, and creativity.
In addition to the application submitted online, students must also submit a completed portfolio. This can be downloaded from the application website or requested from your GRT. The completed portfolio must be turned into your GRT, Mrs. Vickery, prior to the deadline. No late applications will be accepted and both components are necessary for a completed application.

Art & Dance applications due TBD
Student’s completed portfolios are due TBD
Students currently in grades 2 through 7 are eligible to apply to both art and dance.
The art application - a portfolio and an online application are required. The online application is merely a couple of boxes the parent clicks, that’s it, nothing else. No parent input, no GRT input, no grades, nothing but the portfolio is considered. After the portfolios are screened, SOME students are invited to the in-person art audition. Students are bussed to ODS. Students are identified/selected from the results of the in-person art audition.
The dance application - The online dance application is all that is required. The online application is merely a couple of boxes the parent clicks, that’s it, nothing else. No parent input, no GRT input, no grades. All students will be bussed to ODS for an in-person dance audition. No experience required.
Online applications must have a Status of “submitted or complete.” Portfolios are due to you on or before TBD. If your dashboard has any “open” applications, those applications are incomplete and will not be processed.
Q: What is required for parents to apply to art & dance?
A: The parent uses their child’s login and password to access the online application.
Dance application - only requires a checked box and submit. ALL dance submitted/completed applications will be assigned an audition day. No previous experience required.

Identified 3rd-5th grade students may participate in the Gifted Visual Arts Program housed at Old Donation School. Admission into this one day per week pull-out program is determined through an application and audition process. Instruction in the program challenges students gifted in the visual arts. The curriculum integrates art history, criticism, aesthetic perception, creativity, theory and skill development, as well as components from the core curriculum of knowledge.
Any 6th-8th grade student identified as gifted in visual arts who wish to participate in the Gifted Visual Arts Program can attend Virginia Beach Middle School as a full-time student. At this time, the Gifted Visual Arts Program is incorporated within the middle school daily schedule. Gifted Visual Arts Program student schedules integrate a zero bell to provide time for visual arts and another elective during the student’s middle school day. 6th-7th graders have health and physical education scheduled during the zero bell; 8th graders have art studio. Transportation to Virginia Beach Middle School is provided for all students attending the Gifted Visual Arts Program.
