7th International Thirukkural Conference 2026 Held at the University of Vavuniya
The 7th International Thirukkural Conference was successfully held on 1st and 2nd February 2026 at the University of Vavuniya, Sri Lanka, bringing together eminent scholars, researchers, and Tamil intellectuals from various countries. The conference was conducted under the theme “Human Dignity,” highlighting the enduring relevance of Thiruvalluvar’s Thirukkural in promoting noble human values.
The conference was organized by the International Thirukkural Foundation, Mauritius, in collaboration with the University of Vavuniya and the International Tamil Cultural Centre, Jaffna, and was proudly hosted in the historic Vanni region. The two-day programme was hosted by Mr. Sebarajah Arulappan.
In their addresses, speakers emphasized that Thirukkural is a rare literary and philosophical treasure that transcends time, culture, and geography. Its teachings on humanity, morality, equality, and human dignity were highlighted as being especially relevant in the contemporary global context, where concerns related to human rights, ethical leadership, and social justice continue to gain importance.
The conference featured keynote addresses, paper presentations, and scholarly discussions focusing on the universal values embedded in Thirukkural and their application to modern society. The event concluded with a collective resolve to further promote Thirukkural studies at national and international levels and to uphold its ethical principles in academic, cultural, and social domains.
The Third Awarding and Fourth Inauguration Ceremony of the Certificate in Professional English
The Industry and Community Interaction Cell (ICIC), Faculty of Business Studies, University of Vavuniya, Sri Lanka, proudly hosted the awarding ceremony for the third batch and the inauguration ceremony for the fourth batch of the Certificate in Professional English course on June 28, 2025, at SH 4, University of Vavuniya.
During the ceremony, 49 students received certificates for successfully completing the course, while 30 new students were officially enrolled in the fourth batch. The event was graced by the distinguished guests, including the Chief Guest, Senior Professor A. Atputharajah, Vice Chancellor of the University; the Special Guest, Professor Y. Nanthagopan, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies; the Guest of Honour, Mr. N. Rajavisahan, Registrar of the University; and Guests Mr. S. Douglus and Ms. P. Dileka, who serve as course resource persons. Also in attendance were Mr. S. Sivanenthira, ICIC Coordinator, and Mr. A. Sebarajah, Course Coordinator, who headed and coordinated the programme.

Second Awarding and Third Inauguration Ceremony of Certificate in Professional English
The University of Vavuniya, Sri Lanka, proudly hosted the second awarding ceremony for the second batch and the inauguration ceremony for the third batch of the Certificate in Professional English course on January 26, 2025, at SH 4, University of Vavuniya. The course is coordinated by the Industry and Community Interaction Cell (ICIC) of the Faculty of Business Studies in collaboration with the Department of English Language Teaching (DELT).
During the ceremony, 25 students were awarded certificates for successfully completing the course, while 40 new students registered for the third batch. The event was graced by several distinguished guests, including the Chief Guest, Senior Prof. A. Atputharajah, Vice Chancellor of the University; Special Guest, Prof. Y. Nanthagopan, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies; and Guest Ms. D. Gapila, one of the course resource persons. The ceremony was also attended by Mr. S. The Awareness and English Enhancement Free Seminar for Advanced Level Students - Mannar
The Awareness and English Enhancement Seminar for Advanced Level Students – Mannar was held on 18th January 2025, from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm, at Mn / Sithivinayagar Hindu College, Mannar, organized by the Department of English Language Teaching, Faculty of University of Vavuniya (UOV), Sri Lank in Collaboration with Mannar Education Zone and Institute of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL), Mannar Chapter. The seminar aimed to improve students' English language skills, with a particular focus on writing and speaking, while also promoting the academic programs and opportunities offered by the University. The event was coordinated and headed by Mr. A. Sebarajah, Instructor in English, DELT, UOV, who opened the seminar with a welcoming address that emphasized its objectives and vision.

Free Seminar on English Enhancement for Advanced Level Students, Vavuniya
The English Enhancement Seminar for Advanced Level students-2024 took place on 4th January 2025 from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm at SH 4, Faculty of Business Studies (FBS), University of Vavuniya (UOV). Organized by the Department of English Language Teaching (DELT), the seminar aimed to enhance students' English language skills, with a special focus on writing and speaking, while also promoting the university's academic programs and offerings.
The event was coordinated and headed by Mr. A. Sebarajah, Instructor in English G ii, who opened the seminar with a welcoming address that highlighted the purpose and goals of the initiative. The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. A. Atputharajah, delivered an inspiring speech, emphasizing the importance of mastering English and IT for future empowerment. The Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, Prof. Y. Nanthagopan, provided insightful remarks on the value of English in academic and professional contexts. Additionally, Prof. G. Jeyaseelan, Head/DELT, spoke about the challenges students face in learning English and provided guidance on overcoming them.

Thirty-eight students were awarded certificates for completing the course during the event, while twenty-five students registered for the second batch. The ceremony was distinguished by the presence of esteemed guests, including the Chief, Prof. A. Atputharajah, Vice Chancellor of the University; Special Guest Prof. Y. Nanthagopan, Dean of the Faculty, and the Guests of Honour, Prof. G. Jeyaseelan, Head of DELT and Prof. A. Pushpanathan, Director of the Centre for Quality Assurance, University of Vavuniya. Mr. S. Sivanenthira, the ICIC coordinator and Mr. A. Sebarajah, the course coordinator headed and coordinated the programme.
