Communication Theme Goal Statement: By June 30, 2022, VPS stakeholders will know that the superintendent and district leadership team have developed a framework or set of criteria to guide system-level decisions. Further, VPS stakeholders will understand the multiple ways they can provide input to help shape those decisions so that trust is built and transparency is enhanced throughout VPS.
In reviewing district data, themes emerged around decision making and the importance of engaging stakeholders and communication. The challenge for an organization the size of VPS with a multitude of decisions made every day is which kinds of decisions elevate to a board-superintendent level process and which decisions should be empowered to be made at the team or individual level. The transition team reflected on past experiences and reviewed the equity policy development process to gain insight. The communication goal came from this discussion.

A draft decision-making framework is created: Decision-making/Program change process/framework
The process (below) is designed to help inform stakeholders on how decisions are made and how they can provide input and feedback. During the 2022-23 school year the district will pilot this process with a review of highly capable programming.
Responsibility matrix is created: Decision-making Authority Matrix This matrix provides a high level overview of the types of decisions that happen in a school district and responsibilities associated with those decisions.
