This is what you see on the bottom of your screen when you first open your Chromebook (perhaps you have different icons).
On the left - we see the circle, which is called our "launcher" (more info below).
The icons in the middle are apps I have pinned to my "Shelf" for easy access.
On the right, you will see icons for our accessibility tools, as well as the stylus tool, and the settings menu (You will not see all of these until you set them up!). Click on the clock to access the settings menu and accessibility tools.
If you swipe up on the "Shelf", or click the "Launcher", you will see a desktop of sorts, where you can click on the apps and tools you have downloaded.
To the left are some examples of apps that are available.
You can also "pin" these to your "Shelf" if you want to get to them quickly. (Here's a little tutorial for that.)
Chromebook Simulator: Don't have a Chromebook handy? Use the Chromebook simulator to see step-by-step instructions for using the Chromebook.
Chromebook Tour: This is a site created by Google that walks you through the basics of your Chromebook. This includes how to organize apps, and where to access features. Please note: Our app download process looks different here in VPS (more info below), so the app section is not relevant.
Chromebook Accessibility How-To: This is a site created by Google, showing the steps for turning on text-to-speech, dictation, and other accessibility features on student and staff Chromebooks. There is also a link to an interactive tutorial that allows you to try it out in a simulator before doing it on your device, or a student's device.
On Chromebooks, students and staff have access to both the Google Play Store and the Chrome Web Store. The visual to the left outlines the differences between the two places!
Anything found in the Google Play Store has already been reviewed by the district, and is approved for school use.
When you open the Chrome Web Store, you will be sent to a list of the Chrome Extensions approved by our district, but you can review others. Note: If you try to add the others to your device, you will be told you are not authorized.
