Ridgevue High School is the student’s workplace. Dress befitting a person’s workplace and that of a school setting is expected. Modesty and good hygiene is required. Any manner of dress that negatively affects the educational atmosphere at school or is deemed a safety issue, will be addressed by staff and the administration.
The items listed below serve only as a guideline. Other dress code issues that are not included in this section may be dealt with at the discretion of the administration.
• No headwear (hats, bandanas, beanies, hoods, etc.). Headwear will not be allowed on campus - neither on your head or your person and will be taken for parent/guardian to pick up in the main office. After the second offense, the item will be kept for the remainder of the semester.
• Outerwear clothing must completely cover undergarments
• Shoes must be worn at all times.
• No apparel or body art containing:
advertisements or logos of alcohol, drugs or tobacco products or weapons
sexual innuendos (i.e. Virginity Rocks)
depictions of violence
discrimination on the basis of color, disability, national origin, marital status, race, religion gender, or sexual orientation
profanity or close approximations
gangs, hate groups or anti-social organizations, including all colors of bandanas. This includes apparel containing artwork or writing which is done in a style that resembles any of the above or has been acknowledged by law enforcement as being gang-related.
• No apparel that may be used as a weapon such as chains, spiked collar necklaces or spiked bracelets, studs, bolts, needles, pins, sharp objects, or other jewelry deemed unsafe are not allowed at school
• Tops must have visible straps that extend to the shoulder and cover stomach, sides, chest, shoulders and back Muscle shirts, tank tops, spaghetti straps, or strapless tops are not permitted. Clothing seen/worn under zip-up jackets must meet dress code requirements. Parent/guardian will be notified to bring suitable replacement.
• No clothing that shows a bare midriff or see-through fabric
• No sunglasses worn indoors
• No clothing with holes in inappropriate locations
• No short skirts or shorts (fabric must be as long as fingertips when arms are extended down)
• No sleepwear of any kind, including slippers, pajama pants, and blankets
• No sagging or revealing pants
• No professional sportswear including coats, jerseys, lanyards, hats, shorts, t-shirts, etc.
• No flags should be worn on the person or their belongings (IE backpack, back pocket)
• No costumes or costume accessories including face paint
A student dressed inappropriately will be referred to the administration. For non-gang related offenses consequences may include: change of clothes, lunch detention, in-school suspension or out-of-school suspension. For gang related offenses consequences include suspension of up to five days, a parent conference will be held and a behavior agreement/contract will be signed. Hair related or body art issues must be resolved prior to returning to school.
Exceptions to the dress code may be granted on designated days by the school administration at the request of the Student Leadership.
