I invested some of my summer break, and took a course called Staying Safe from Online Harm. In Technology, we discuss the dangers of "talking and sharing" with others online. Although we discuss the topic, I don't get too detailed as we feel that parents want to share this information as they see fit. Oftentimes, it can be a difficult subject. The website below provides a wealth of information. It provides videos and great conversation starters for ages as young as 7. There are also resources for monitoring devices and learning about the platforms your children may currently use or could use in the future.
Commonsense Education is the website I use in class for Digital Citizenship (Internet Safety). Click on the button and it will direct you to their parent page.
It is a great resource to review movies, books, TV programs, video games and even apps like Snapchat and Discord. It is hard to keep up with all the apps and I wish I had this resource when my children were younger.
Have you considered a Family Media Agreement with your Child? We discuss Digital Citizenship throughout the year but this is a great resource for parents and a good reminder for students. This 2 page document can be printed out and is a tool you can use as a parent.
