Internet Filters on Home Devices
If you don't already have internet filters on your home devices, now is the time to do it. Please do not think that your child is too young. They could accidentally type a wrong letter or click on a link and be directed to an inappropriate website. A Common Sense Media survey found the average age that most kids were exposed to porn is 12 years old; 15% first saw porn when they were 10 years old or younger. (Jan 10, 2023)
Your internet provider most likely has a filter included in the price of your package. Other providers I have heard about but have not personally used are Net Nanny, Circle, or Qustodio. I would recommend talking to a parent your trust and ask their opinion.

Commonsense Education is the website I use in class for Digital Citizenship (Internet Safety). Click on the button and it will direct you to their parent page.
It is a great resource to review movies, books, TV programs, video games and even apps like Snapchat and Discord. It is hard to keep up with all the apps and I wish I had this resource when my children were younger.
Have you considered a Family Media Agreement with your Child? We discuss Digital Citizenship throughout the year but this is a great resource for parents and a good reminder for students. This 2 page document can be printed out and is a tool you can use as a parent.
