Each rotation, I will post what we are doing in class. Most assignments can be found in Google Classroom with detailed instructions.
Rotation 28/29 - April 24- May 9
3rd- 8th Grades- all grades will be taking year end IXL benchmark testing (Math and ELA). Students need to bring a book to read after they finish the test.

As a whole group, we will review how to make a capital letter with the SHIFT key NOT the Caps Lock key.
Students log in to k5tech.net and will fill in the missing letters on keyboard.
Students will type letters/words in the box.
Students will move on to Dance Mat Typing for remaining 5-10 minutes.

Digital Citizenship lesson- "This Just In"- Students will learn how to analyze breaking news alerts to identify clues of false or incomplete information. Commonsense.org

They will need to make sure to watch the CodeHS video NOT the YouTube video as it is blocked. They should try to get through mini assignment #8 which is creating their own bubble letter and filling it with color.

4th Quarter Typing Test
Students will log in to Code.org and complete Encryption lesson. We will discuss the need for encryption and some techniques used. Students will practice "cracking the codes" using Caesar Cipher and Random Substitution Cipher.
Early finishers will work in IXL on their recommendation wall.
6th Grade- Coding

For Assignment 6- Students will go through the checklist/rubric to make sure they have everything before turning in the assignment. They need to cite their sources in the Notes section of the presentation- not on the slide itself (below the slide).
Make sure the document is attached to the assignment so I can grade it.

They will watch my instructional video to adjust the page layout and add images. The information all needs to fit on ONE page. Assignment #10- students will review the rubric to make sure they have everything they need prior to turning in the final assignment.

Website project (Google Sites project)- Students will work on their Final page- Bucket List. They need at least 2 pictures of experiences or achievements they wish to accomplish in their lifetime. They may use clipart or other web pictures. Make sure credit is given to creators by including their name with the picture. There is no additional video for this assignment as they will use the skills they have learned in prior weeks.
Students need to review the feedback given in prior assignments and make corrections. They have a hard copy of the rubric and it is also in Google classroom.
Final Project due for all classes: February 23
7th Grade-

They will need complete sentences and proper grammar. Their audience is elementary aged children. Assignment #8- students will watch the second video to learn how to format the card.

The LEGACY page will include any activities the student has participated in during their school career. It should be fairly current (within the last couple years). This may include student council, sports, clubs, service projects or special events. On this page, they will insert at least ONE photo and add at least ONE text box (with words in it explaining the photo).
For the FAMILY/FRIENDS page, students need to have at least 2 photos with text boxes explaining why the family/friends are important to them. Watch the video to create your Family/Friends page.

Make sure permissions are changed so that anyone on the Valley Academy domain can view. This needs to be done from the student's Google Drive. Prior Technology projects can also be used (see Google Drive). Please give explanations of each of the 3 multimedia objects. Typing Club warm up
Timeline project (Google Slides)- this project will be part of student's Country presentation in Social Studies. Students will complete assignment #3 where they will find at least 5-8 significant events that happened in their country. Please choose between Ancient History (3,500 BC- AD 500) or Middle Ages (AD 500-AD 1600). Students need to make sure they note where they found the information for citation purposes. In my instructional video, I model a timeline for person. Students will complete a timeline for their country's history. See Google Classroom for further details. Due: 6C 1/31, 6G 2/1, 6S 2/2
5th Grade-
Typing Club warm up
TechnoResearch project (Google Doc)- students will create an outline and start their research for the State Report. They will use the encyclopedia links provided to gather information on their outline. Instructions and 2 instructional videos are attached to the Google Classroom assignment (#3/4). This is the second class period to work on this assignment.

Global issue (Google Slides)- students will choose one of the environmental topics attached to the assignment. There are fact sheets to assist them with their research if they choose to use them. Each slide will address part of the topic. The rubric will address what needs to be on each slide. The slide presentation should be addressed to their peers and be visually appealing and informative. Only people on the Valley Academy domain will be able to view it. Their assignment is to collect photos over Winter break on a flash drive or upload them to their School Google Drive. Make sure that the photos are not in HEIC/HEIF format as it is not compatible with Google Sites. I recommend converting the pictures to JPEG. There are numerous videos on the web showing how to do this. Students will not be able to move forward in the project without the photos so they should have them when they return to school. Students will practice logging in and out of Google Classroom. As a whole group, I will review how to find the assignment in Google Classroom. Students will watch the video to create a new Google Doc. Then students will go to your Google Drive. If there is a document in the Google Drive then attach it. If there isn't anything then don't worry about it. Please watch part of the video, pause, then complete. Students should not try to watch the entire video (7min) then do it as they will forget what they are supposed to do.
Make sure you have the new document you created attached to your assignment.

We will go through lesson slides and talk about how their online behaviors are valuable to companies and how companies use this information. We will learn 3 strategies to limit the data collected by companies. Students will work on ThreadMeiseter worksheet.

6th Grade-

Digital Citizenship lesson- Don't Feed the Phish (commonsense.org). We will go through lesson slides and discuss identity theft. We will go over clues on how to identify phishing. Students will then work on How to Catch a Phish worksheet.
Early finishers will work in the IXL Arena on math problems.
4th Grade-
Typing Club warm up
Digital Citizenship lesson - Our Online Tracks (commonsense.org). We will go through lesson slides and discuss our digital footprint and how we can control what we put online. As a whole group, we will read the "footprints" each person left online and we are going to discuss what we learned about each person.
Early finishers will work in the IXL Arena on math problems.
3rd Grade-
Whole Group- We will watch a short video about computer parts and students will identify parts at their station.
Whole group- We will read an ebook together about the mouse. Students will practice holding the mouse correctly and how to hover, click, double click, right and left click and how to use the scroll wheel.
Students will complete the keyboard activity worksheet.
If time, then students will practice logging in to the computer and practicing using mouse. There is a shortcut on the desktop (Mouse Practice). Then they will practice logging in and out of Google Classroom.

3rd Grade- Students will be taking a Google Doc Skill Assessment during Technology class. Please do not practice or work from home. This is an ungraded assessment to find out what your student knows. Since it is the beginning of the year, students will NOT know how to complete most (or any) of the skills.
4th-8th Grade- Students will be taking a Skill Assessment during Technology class. It is an ungraded assignment to see what students remember from last year.

Digital Citizenship lesson- Digital Media and the Brain (commonsense.org). We will focus on the difference between humane design vs addictive design and how students can respond to digital media with addictive design. Students will then complete worksheet and we will discuss.
If we finish early then students will work in IXL arena
7th Grade-
Students will take Baseline Typing Tests.
Digital Citizenship lesson- The Power of Digital Footprints(commonsense.org). We will go through lesson slides then we will go through a scenario and discuss how the online information portrays the individuals.

Digital Citizenship lesson- Chatting Safely Online (commonsense.org). We will go through lesson slides together. Students will then on Risky Chat Dilemma worksheet. We will discuss different ways to handle the situation.

3rd - 8th Grade- Welcome back to school! This rotation we will be assigning seats, reviewing expectations and going over the Syllabus. Each student will be given a copy of the Student Internet Safety form. We will review it together and students will sign it in class (worth 10 homework points).
