This full-year course provides a broad introduction to the fundamental concepts of chemistry, physics, and earth science. Students will explore the structure and behavior of matter, investigate the forces that shape our planet and universe, and develop essential skills in scientific measurement, data analysis, and problem solving.
In the first semester, we build a foundation in scientific methods, measurement, and data organization. Students study the properties, states, and changes of matter, the structure of the atom, the organization of the periodic table, and how atoms combine through chemical bonding. We also examine chemical reactions, balancing equations, acids and bases, and the role of carbon in organic compounds.
In the second semester, the focus shifts to nuclear chemistry, earth science, and space science. Students explore radioactivity, nuclear processes, and the forces at work inside the Earth. We investigate weathering, erosion, and the dynamic processes shaping Earth’s surface, then expand our view to the solar system, stars, galaxies, and the universe.
Hands-on activities, laboratory investigations, and collaborative projects help students connect scientific concepts to real-world applications. By the end of the year, students will have a strong foundation in science that prepares them for advanced coursework and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
***Student classroom schedules can also be accessed at anytime in the Google Classroom. You can find it pinned to the top of the Classwork Tab under Calendar. This document will remain updated and will indicate the tentative schedule for the week to allow students to prepare for any upcoming assignments, quizzes, tests, or make up any work missed during absences. Students should check-in and use their classroom OFTEN!
