To access your district Google Calendar account and familiarize yourself with important settings, follow these steps:
Open Your Web Browser: Use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
Navigate to Google Calendar: Go to https://calendar.google.com
Google calendars, by default, allow anyone in VUSD to have a look at your calendar. This is obviously different from Outlook. If you would like to make your calendar visibility the same as Outlook please complete the three steps below.
Note: Please do not uncheck "Make available to VUSD". Unchecking that box makes scheduling meetings very difficult. Just select "Free/Busy". These settings will match the settings as Outlook had them.
Step 1 - Click the ellipses (three dots) near your personal calendar name
Step 2 - Choose Settings and Sharing
Step 3 - Select "Free/Busy"
Adding Someone Else's Calendar To Your Calendar
Click the plus (+) button next to "Other Calendars"
Click on "Subscribe to Calendar"
Use the search bar under "Add Calendar" and input the name of the person you would like to add. When the name shows up, click on that person to add their calendar.
And that's all there is to it.
Google Calendar offers the ability to manage multiple calendars for each user and view others' calendars at the same time. However, you will find that the more calendars you add, the more your calendar may get cluttered. Thankfully, Google Calendar allows you to hide these additional calendars. Simply check/uncheck each calendar you want to view at the same time or hide entirely.
Sometimes you may want to invite people to an event without needing their RSVPs. For instance, a school Halloween celebration. To send an optional event:
Create the event: Add the event details (title, date, time, location) to your calendar and save it.
Publish the event: Reopen the event, click the ellipses (•••), and select 'Publish event.' You will see options for HTML code and 'Copy link.' Choose 'Copy link.'
Share the link: Include the copied link in an email with a message like, "click this link and copy the event to your calendar to join my event."
