The Vacaville Unified School District (VUSD) and the VUSD Technology Department are not responsible for the support, service, or maintenance of personal devices. This includes, but is not limited to, personal laptops, tablets, and printers.
Network Access:
Personal printers are not permitted to connect to the district network—this includes both Ethernet and Wi-Fi connections. Only district-approved and district-provided equipment is authorized for use on the VUSD network.
Printer Use:
Personal printers may only be connected to district computers via a USB cable. Users are solely responsible for the setup, management, and maintenance of their personal devices.
Personal Laptops/Tablets:
While you may use personal laptops or tablets at work, they cannot be connected to the district network or used with district devices, such as classroom printers. Due to these limitations, we strongly encourage staff to use the technology and equipment provided by VUSD for the best support, functionality, and security.
At the core of this policy is a simple but critical reason: security.
The Technology Department cannot manage or monitor personal devices in the same way it can with district-issued equipment. As a result, the same security protocols—such as software updates, antivirus protection, and network restrictions—cannot be enforced on personal computers, which introduces potential risks to our network and data.
For a deeper understanding of the cybersecurity concerns related to personal device use (also known as BYOD: Bring Your Own Device), we invite you to read this article.
