Many of our district desktop PCs come with a built-in DVD drive. If you happen to have a DVD of the movie you want to share, it's as easy as putting the disc in the drive.
However, the DVD needs to be read through a media player in order for it to work. What you will find on your desktop or within your apps list is VLC Player. You'll want to open this program and select DVD and "play" in order for your movie to boot up.
There are some district devices in the district that do not have a built-in DVD player. You'll find these on devices such as laptops and even a few desktops out there that don't have one. To remedy this, they sell external DVD players that connect via USB. A great resource for all your district needs, what you can get, and how you can get them would be through our Technology Coordinator. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns regarding VUSD District purchases and more, please contact Jim Wasielewski.
If you prefer not to use your computer’s DVD drive, you can connect a stand-alone DVD player (the kind normally used with a television) to your classroom projector.
Locate the HDMI wall plate in your classroom
Plug the DVD player's HDMI cable into the wall plate
Turn on both the DVD player and the projector
This sends the video and audio signal from the DVD player directly to your projector.
Your projector needs to know which device you want to display.
Press “Source Search” on the Epson projector remote
The projector will automatically scan inputs until it detects the DVD player
Once detected, the movie screen should appear on your projector
You’ll use the DVD player remote (or the buttons on the DVD player itself) to:
Play/pause
Navigate menus
Adjust volume (if your player has volume control)
Skip chapters
The computer is not involved in this setup.
Insert the DVD into your optical drive, then launch VLC Media Player. Navigate to the 'Media' menu and select 'Open Disc.' Confirm that the disc type is set to 'DVD,' then click 'Play' to begin playback.
