YouTube is a powerful classroom resource, but sometimes videos don’t behave the way we expect. If you’ve ever seen a video look like it’s “loading forever,” fail to play, or show up as a black screen on the projector, you’re not alone.
This page covers the most common YouTube issues we see in classrooms and how to quickly resolve them.
(Spinning circle, blank video, or endless loading)
In many cases, Google’s built-in ad-blocking features or browser extensions can interfere with how YouTube loads videos. While these tools are designed to improve browsing and security, they can sometimes block required video elements, making YouTube appear stuck or frozen.
YouTube relies on certain scripts and ads to properly load and play content. When those elements are blocked:
The page loads
The video player appears
But the video never actually starts
It looks like a buffering issue, but it’s actually being blocked behind the scenes.
Refresh the page
Try opening the video in a new tab
Close and reopen Google Chrome
If the issue persists, Request a Technology Specialist to review browser settings or extensions
(Black screen on projector when using Epson iProjection)
When connecting wirelessly using the Epson iProjection app, some YouTube videos may not display on the projector due to content protection restrictions. The video plays fine on your laptop, but the projector shows a black or blank screen.
Some streaming services (including YouTube) limit how video content can be mirrored or shared wirelessly. When the signal passes through certain wireless display apps, the video feed may be blocked — even though audio or other content continues to work.
This is a limitation of wireless projection, not your computer or the projector.
👉 Use an HDMI cable instead of wireless projection
Hardwiring your laptop directly to the projector allows YouTube videos to display normally and avoids the content restrictions that can occur with wireless mirroring.
If YouTube won’t play and looks “stuck,” it’s often not an internet issue — it’s a browser or extension conflict
Wireless projection is convenient, but HDMI is more reliable for video playback
If a video works on your screen but not on the projector, switch to a wired connection
Closing and reopening Chrome can resolve many YouTube playback glitches
If YouTube continues to have issues in your classroom:
➡️ Request a Technology Specialist
We can help determine whether the issue is browser-related, network-related, or projection-related and get you back up and running quickly.
