The serial number is essential for tracking, repairing, re-enrolling, or unlocking a Chromebook. Fortunately, there are two easy ways to find it: physically on the device, or on-screen at the login window.
The easiest way to find the serial number is by turning the Chromebook over.
Look for:
A printed label or sticker
Markings such as “S/N,” “Serial,” or “Serial Number”
A combination of letters and numbers
This serial sticker is placed by the manufacturer and is present on all district Chromebooks.
If the sticker is faded, damaged, or hard to read, you can also view the serial number on-screen.
At the main login screen (before signing in):
Press ALT + V
A small information bar will appear in the top-right corner
Look for the line that says “SN:” — that is the Chromebook’s serial number
You’ll also see an Asset ID, which identifies which school and room the Chromebook is assigned to
This method is especially helpful when:
Reporting a missing Chromebook
Requesting tech support
Re-enrolling a device
Identifying a device moved from another room or cart
