Sometimes a Chromebook will display a message indicating that it has been disabled by the VUSD Technology Department. This type of lock is intentional and is used to help locate or secure a device that may have been reported missing, misplaced, or out of rotation.
When a Chromebook is locked by VUSD, it will display the following message:
“This Chromebook has been disabled by the VUSD Tech Department to help locate the device.
To have it re-activated, please call 707-453-6196 with the serial number and the room or cart number for the Chromebook.”
If you see this message:
Do not attempt to reset, Powerwash, or troubleshoot the device
Set the Chromebook aside (on top of the cart or a safe location)
Gather the following information:
The serial number (listed on the bottom or in the message)
The room number or cart number where the Chromebook belongs
Request a Technology Specialist or call the number provided (707-453-6196)
Only the Technology Department can re-activate a disabled Chromebook.
A Chromebook may be locked by VUSD when:
It was reported missing or stolen
It was found in the wrong classroom or wrong school
It was removed from a cart or rotation unexpectedly
Its location is unknown and we need to track it
It triggered certain district security flags
This lock helps secure the device and ensures it is returned to its proper cart and grade-level configuration.
Once we verify the device location and confirm it’s back where it belongs, we can quickly re-activate it and get it working again.
