I am currently a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, double-majoring in Broad Field Science and Biology, with an emphasis in Secondary Education. I am involved in the Kappa Delta Pi Educational Honor Society, Aspiring Educators, National Society of Leadership and Success, and Biology Club. I am currently student teaching at Mount Horeb High School. I have taken over four sections of General Biology, one section of Anatomy and Physiology, and I am co-teaching Ecology and Biology II with my cooperating teacher. Stay tuned for what the next quarter of student teaching brings when I head back to sixth grade in the middle school!!
I consider myself a "small town girl", as I grew up in Blanchardville -- a cozy little town of 800 people in southwest Wisconsin. To me, "rural" means so much more than simply being an adjective that describes a town or a region. Rurality defines my educational values and who I am as a person altogether. At a very young age, I set the only long-term goal that I feel I have truly ever stuck with and that is this: I want to serve the rural communities that provided me with so many wonderful opportunities growing up. I have always considered school more of a hobby than a required task, so to no surprise, I set out to become an educator. Now, here I am, with a teaching degree at the tip of my fingers, ready to make positive impacts in rural communities!
For as long as I can remember, I have aspired to be a middle or high school science teacher, so I am immensely excited to pursue this career path! I have always been passionate about education, so I cannot wait to instill this same love of learning in my students. I believe that every student is continually "green and growing", as am I as a student and teacher.
My family means the world to me. These three humans are my biggest motivators and always push me to be my best self.
I tend to geek out over plants! Check out this Mountain Ball Cactus surrounded by lichen that I found while hiking in Colorado!
Here are my two beloved pups, Rocky and Greta! More than likely, there will be an abundance of pictures featuring these two that will be incorporated into my lessons. Oh, and GO PACK GO!
I grew up on a small hobby farm in the rolling hills of Wisconsin's Driftless Area. We raise a few head of cattle and chickens each year.
My love of science and investigation really began in my freshman year biology class. After that, I never looked back! Yes, I am dissecting a cat in this photo. The things we do for science...
I enjoy a bit of thrill every now and again. Here I am ziplining through conifers in the Colorado Rockies!
I can do my absolute favorite hobby only once a year, for about two weeks. When late April-early May rolls around, you'll most likely be able to find me in the woods around my parents' property. I could spend all day looking for morels. This is the biggest morel I've found to date (found May 2020)!!
