All applications will undergo an initial screening by Program staff to identify a slate of potential candidates who align with the Program goals. Applications selected through the initial screening process will be reviewed and ranked by Program research faculty mentors. Top candidates will be invited for in-person interviews. Program staff will identify the final participants and alternates.
Participants in the NeuroNauts Program are required to complete the program from June 1 through July 24, 2026. The Program hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. If you cannot commit to this level of engagement, please do not apply.
Summer 2026 is the first year of a five-year program. We anticipate funds to include eight new high school students each year of the Program (Summer 2027, Summer 2028, Summer 2029, and Summer 2030).
While we will do our best to match students with one of their top choices, we can’t guarantee placement in a specific project. All of the faculty were selected for their interest in neuroscience research and in mentoring less-experienced students. Focus on getting some great experience, building your professional network, and broadening your interests - you might find a new interest that you like even more than you expected!
The NeuroNauts Program is a big commitment. But, depending on your goals, it may be well worth it! Participants will gain hands-on experience in neuroscience research, build relationships with UWF faculty and staff, and develop professional skills such as communication—all of which will set you apart from your peers on your college and career journey.
The Program Management team will hold two optional sessions to discuss the program, provide a further overview of what to expect and how to apply, and address questions. The same information (generally) will be discussed in both sessions and recorded for those who cannot attend either meeting. Students and families are not required to attend these information sessions in order to apply or participate in the program.
