Student's application development
The following was an email received from one of my students whom I have been providing design guidance to help him improve the development of his application.
Hi Mrs Petersen
My name is Thomas Chauke, a final year student studying Bsc in computer science. I was in your class last semester I learnt a lot and put it into practice.
I have developed an online system called findavarsity.co.za allows learners to calculate aps scores and shows which faculties they most likely qualify for, soon moving to courses.
The system was launched 3 months back and it has been used by over 1000 learners and continues to grow every day with new users both students and learners. It has a Q&A platform such as quora.com or stackoverlfow.com which is m.findavarsity.co.za
I hosted a session to assist students in preparing for the world of work by complementing their core learning with the necessary industry skills. I also arranged a session with Career Services to further assist by providing advices on the services offered such as C.V. writing, interview preparation and using Career Explora.
My commitment to entrepreneurship is evidenced by my two panel discussions at the Entrepreneurship Development in Higher Education (EDHE) conference in 2023.
After the EMS Writing Retreat on 4 - 5 September 2023, I created a 'Just Write' Google Space to allow colleagues a safe space to share and collaborate on research. I also set up fortnightly meetings so that the momentum from the retreat can continue.
I was invited to speak at the IT Web conference and presented the ABSA IT Audit Academy as part of our Work Integrated Learning programme. More details regarding my presentation are available here.
