The Scholarship of Teaching of Learning (SoTL) involves undertaking systematic inquiry about student learning and the “faculty bringing their habits and skills as scholars to their work as teachers… habits of asking questions, gathering evidence of all different kinds, drawing conclusions or raising new questions, and bringing what they learn through that to… students’ learning” (Hutchings, 2015).
Kathleen McKinney notes the value of “SoTL can serve many positive functions for individuals, courses, programs, institutions, and higher education more broadly” (2007). SoTL enables me and other lecturers to learn more about student learning in our classrooms and other educational contexts.
In 2019 I received the award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in the Law Faculty.
Below follows a list of selected workshops, seminars and publications over the past few years which have enhanced my skills as a scholar and which has truly contributed to professionalising my teaching and learning. I also firmly believe in collaborative work, which I have highlighted with colleagues, final year law students as well as those that have since graduated.

Alumni Chat Programme – Moot Court Society, Faculty of Law (2024)
I was invited by the Faculty of Law’s Moot Court Society to serve as the official representative for the Faculty at the Alumni Chat Programme, addressing third-year law students. My role included delivering introductory remarks and introducing the panel, which comprised experienced legal professionals and alumni.
This initiative was designed to provide students with critical insights into the professional landscape that awaits them post-graduation. The discussion highlighted the diverse career pathways available to law graduates and explored various professional development programmes that support emerging practitioners in their transition from academic study to legal practice. Events like these are essential in bridging the gap between legal education and practice, equipping students with the necessary knowledge, networks, and strategies to navigate their careers effectively.
