Explore various methods, such as the use of lessons, to create a more stimulating online experience for students.
This unit introduces you to iKamva, the Learning Management System (LMS) used at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) and its navigation in order to become familiar with various content, communication and assessment e-Tools.
Course Resources eTool allows you to structure learning resources (files and folders) such as powerpoint lecture presentations, videos, course outlines, spreadsheets, audio recordings.
The tool enables you to create an online module linked to the specific module code as displayed in Student Administration System Integration (SASI). You are able to select the appropriate e-Tools within the online environment.

The Overview is the landing page for a course or project site. It is the first information students will see when they access the online environment.
Note: lecturers have the option to customise which tool is displayed as the course landing page, so in some cases users may see a different tool upon first entering a site.View screencasts demonstrating how to setup the homepage of the course on our CIECT YouTube Channel:
The ‘Publish’ option allows lecturers to make the online course site available to all students registered for the module. Lecturers can choose to work in draft mode while developing the online course.

Podcasts are sound clips that are recorded, edited and saved as audio files and made available online
Lecturers are able to record and add audio to their powerpoint presentations. The narrated presentations can be embedded in your interactive online environment
Discussion Forum eTool allows lecturers to create an unlimited number of forums and related topics. This enables lecturers and students to start conversations and post contributions linked to specific topics
Course Resources e-Tool allows you to structure learning resources (files and folders) such as powerpoint lecture presentations, videos, course outlines, spreadsheets, audio recordings. You can organise these files and links into folders and sub-folders making it easier for students to locate and access items. Folders and files in Resources can be moved or reordered within a site or copied from one site to another.

Concept maps are tools for organizing and representing knowledge. They include concepts, usually enclosed in circles or boxes of some type, and relationships between concepts or propositions, indicated by a connecting line between two concepts. Words on these lines can be used to specify the nature of the relationships between different concepts.

EON-XR is an easy-to-use platform for Augmented & Virtual Reality academic solutions. EON-XR can supplement traditional learning and teaching methods by introducing user-friendly immersive lessons and content.
Access the Content Library
The EON-XR platform has an easily accessible content library. You will be able to access all published lessons that have been made available to the whole institution, from the library. Within the ‘Workspace’ section you are able to view previously authored; and lessons that have been shared with you by others.
In order to access the full list of 3D assets/objects, the user will need to toggle the advanced display mode. This can be done by clicking on the profile icon in the top right corner and selecting "ADVANCED MODE".

Access the Platform
UWC users:
Please fill out and submit this form in order for the EON team to authenticate and grant access to the XR-Platform.
NB: Watch this space for more information on how to ‘Create Lessons’ [Augmented & Virtual Reality].
The EON-XR Library has successfully been integrated into the institutional Learning Management System, iKamva via LTI integration.
Benefits of integrating EON-XR within iKamva (teaching, learning & assessment)
Lecturers are able to structure lessons/units of work within iKamva; and embed a specific Augmented Virtual Reality Resource/s (AVR). You will be able to link the resource from your lessons page/tool. The AVR resource will open in a new window (opens EON site), allowing the student to view the resource. Hence, the resource is aligned to a specific lesson and activities.
Instructions & Pre-requisites: How will a student view the AVR resource within iKamva?
§ It is important that your students download the EON-XR Application in order to view the resources within iKamva.
§ The student will be requested to download application (a pop-up message will appear within iKamva and include the specific application link)
§ Thereafter the student will be able to view the resource within the application
§ Hence the student does not leave the online classroom (specific lesson within iKamva). Rather, opening an application in order to view; and easily return to the lesson page.
*Augmented and Virtual Reality education enable students to actively engage with immersive interactive 3D objects.
Access to the EON-XR Library via iKamva
The educational technology, “Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI)” integration will allow any iKamva user to access the EON-XR platform and content through a Single Sign-On (SSO) method. This enables lecturers and students to access the interactive module content from their online environment within iKamva.
EON-XR User Roles (within iKamva)
Your role within iKamva will not change (i.e. lecturer, student, project owner, and tutor).
You will be able to view the Library resources, making use of your current role.
**How user roles are assigned within iKamva? The Student role is automatically assigned to all students within the course roster. All other roles are set-up within the iKamva site creation process.
Training sessions on how to create lessons making use of the 3D assets/objects within the Library
§ The Library entails many 3D assets/objects (currently 1538 assets).
§ You will be able to create a lesson and make use of the assets accordingly (discipline- specific). This teaching resource can be embedded within the ‘lessons tool’, within iKamva.
Training Workshop Dates & Links (via Google Meet/ Hangouts)
