The program accepts 15-18 UW students each year.
If more applications are received than there are available spots in the program, applicants will be invited to an informal interview with members of the program staff. Based on application and interview information, students will be selected for the program. More information about the selection process is on the Apply page.
US passport holders can enter Japan for academic purposes for up to 90 days without a visa. The length of this program is less than 90 days, a visa is not required for US passport holders.
If you are a US citizen without a passport, you should plan to apply for one now to ensure you have your passport in hand well in advance of the program.
Program participants from other countries should consult the website of the Japanese Consulate in Seattle to check if they need a visa in order to enter Japan.
Because the program schedule does not have much free time, students are encouraged to plan their independent travel before or after the program.
If you have other questions about the program not addressed here, please contact Mike Engh in the College of Engineering.
