Preference for students with high financial need
Students will be oriented in 4 orientation sessions in Spring Quarter 2022. During the sessions, the program directors will cover key topics, including;
Group expectations
Travel planning and logistics
Student apartment assignments and expectations
Introduction to Japanese culture
Updated public health guidelines based on the status of COVID-19
Because of the accelerated nature of the course during the program, students will also receive instruction on the introductory beginning modules of the course during orientation.
If more applications are received than there are available spots in the program, applicants will be invited to an informal interview with members of the program staff. Based on application and interview information, students will be selected for the program based on a number of factors, including:
academic preparedness and demonstration of their ability to handle taking a rigorous engineering courses in a non-traditional environment at an intensive pace
appreciation for cultural competency and interest in developing cross-cultural understanding and communication skills during the program
potential to demonstrate maturity and act as a positive representative for the UW in Japan
Applicants will be notified by mid-February if they are offered a spot in the program. A waitlist may be maintained to accommodate additional students as space becomes available.
Selected students will be asked to confirm their spot on the program by the end of Winter Quarter to finalize the program roster.
