Community & Social Connectedness
By: Maria Inoue
Background
The first website called, "Capitol Hill Village," tells us that the lower income older adults were more lonely in the community, and they added that most of the lonely adults were unmarried. This may show us that there are not as many chances for people to connect in Capitol Hill, or that people are acting more privately than publicly (Profile).

Another website called, "Capitol Hill Ecodistrict," informs us that there are around 17,000 people living in Capitol Hill. They provide that there is a Cal Anderson Park that allows people to congregate, and a natural environment for people to come together. It is even called the "front porch" of Capitol Hill. They also provide virtual strolls and workshop opportunities (Home).

Neighborhood Assessment - 3
My individual population health topic was: Community and Social Connectedness.
The entities I considered for this individual topic were: community garden, benches at Cal Anderson Park, and LGBTQ+ signage. These entities are assets to the neighborhood at score 3, because they connect the residents in ways of collective effort such as growing a garden together and spending time conversing. Furthermore, the LGBTQ+ community would find it very welcoming and safe to come here as it celebrates such identities everywhere around the district. However, there is largely a residential area that seems like a ghost town in the morning as people are usually at work or in school.
Areas of food such as cafes, bakeries, and grocery stores were more active around the time we had visited.

Boca Argentine Pizzeria & Bakery
We visited one of the bakeries at Capitol Hill that was based on Argentinian foods. There was a sense of community for those who spoke this language and shared their culture.
Along this street were a diverse group of restaurants, ranging from Thai, Japanese, to Italian along with this Argentinian eatery.
Churches in the Community
Churches were sprinkled throughout the area, and some seemed Progressive and accepting of the LGBTQ+ community.
