Responsibility and Ethical Use of Technology:
Social Media Use
The professional educator considers the impact of creating content on line. With the rise of entertainment video posting and teachers becoming "famous" for the content they post, there has also been a rise in educators posting unethical posts. Shaming a student is NEVER okay, and doing it publicly on a social media platform is even worse.
It is okay to have a bad day, and it is okay to share that you had a bad day, but not at the expense of your students, their families, or the school community. It is your responsibility to control your "public brand" - how you are perceived by students, parents, colleagues, and the public. Your public brand can and does impact perceptions, which in turn impinge upon your effectiveness. Before you post anything, consider the ramifications of doing so.
