Responsibility and Ethical Use of Technology:
Use of district technology
Professional educators' ethical responsibility to use technology in a responsible manner means abiding by the district's policy for the use of devices whether you are at school or not. When you are issued a computer by your school, you sign a document that spells out exactly what you are and are not allowed to do.
In Tennessee since 2012, 4 teachers have had their license suspended and 2 teachers have had their license revoked because of inappropriate use of district technology. Under TN State law, administrators are REQUIRED to report inappropriate use of school property even if it is not during school hours.
As long as you are assigned a device you are responsible for its use so make sure when you are using it you are following policy. If it is out of your possession and you find that it was used improperly, report it immediately to your administration. It is better to be up front then to try and hide the fact.
